Gobar Times Green Schools Programme takes a global leap

With an eventful and exciting three-year stint behind it, GTGSP is racing ahead in its fourth lap in India - but its sights are no longer confined within the country. In 2009, EEU entered the international arena, forging partnerships with governments and other global agencies in a bid to reach out to a wider and more diverse community of people.

The Gobar Times Green Schools Awards and Festival

Delhi Chief Minister, Sheila Dikshit and noted film personality, Sharmila Tagore gave away awards to the top Green Schools at National level and state level for Delhi schools on February 20th 2010 in New Delhi.

Gobar Times Green Schools Award

The Gobar Times Green Schools Award is a platform to acknowledge and reward schools which have  adopted the most innovative and effective practices to manage natural resources within their own premises.

Conceptualised by the New Delhi-based Centre for Science and Environment (CSE), it is conducted at the national level every year, with schools from across India participating in the annual awards ceremony.

It is true. The adults are often confused about what is right and what is wrong — they know too much about too many things, you see.
But the younger species of the human race have no such compulsions. They make their decisions pretty fast about things they really want, and they make sure that the rest are informed about their choice.

Winners of 2008

The awards were announced during a gala event on 18 December 2008 at Stein Auditorium, India Habitat Centre, New Delhi. The awards were divided into two categories – Top 10 New Schools and Top 10 Change Makers, which have done considerable work on improving their relationship with the environment.

The award ceremony was celebrated as a festival in which schools put up stalls, performed street plays and dances, and participated in a painting competition, green graffiti and photo gallery.

Winners of 2007

The Green Schools Award were given away at a fun-filled ceremony at the India Habitat Centre, New Delhi on December 17, 2007.

About 344 schools from across the nation participated, out of which 20 schools were short-listed as the top green schools of the country. Professor Krishna Kumar, Director, National Council for Education, Research and Training (NCERT) presented the awards to the top 20 Green Schools.
