Media Briefings: STOP THAT SMOG

Are our cities ready to tackle air pollution? The experience in Delhi-NCR and what other Indian cities can learn from it

Date: December 27, 2017

Time: 10 AM - 5 PM

Venue: India Habitat Centre, Lodhi Road, New Delhi

As winter and its accompanying smog sets in across India, most cities are finding themselves at a loss, without any plans or wherewithal to deal with this recurring crisis. Cities need comprehensive action plans (to implement long-term action with time-bound targets) and graded response action plans (for immediate action, linked with daily air pollution levels, to avert episodic air pollution events) to protect public health. Delhi-NCR has taken the initial steps in this direction-will our other cities follow suit?

Centre for Science and Environment (CSE) invites you to a media briefing to understand the Delhi-NCR experience, and how it can be scaled up in some of the major cities of India. The briefing will also provide insights into how cities across the world are dealing with the air pollution menace, and will ask for decisive action to make our cities breathable and livable.

Sunita Narain, director general, CSE; Anumita Roychowdhury, executive director-research and advocacy, CSE; members and representatives from bodies such as the Environment Pollution (Prevention and Control) Authority (EPCA), Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) etc
