MEDIA INVITATION : Launch of the Forum of Cities that Segregate & Media Briefing on Urban Waste Management

December 12, 2017

10 AM – 8:30 PM

Juniper Hall, Indian Habitat Centre (IHC), Lodhi Road, New Delhi

India produces 62 million tonnes of municipal solid waste every year. Per capita waste generation is increasing in the country by about 1.3 per cent annually, a massive problem made worse by India’s growing urban population. The only way to get out of this mess is segregation and recycle-reuse.

Centre for Science and Environment is launching a unique forum of cities which have adopted source segregation to become pioneers in waste management in the country. We invite you to join us at the launch of this initiative. The cities in this forum have transformed themselves dramatically – from waste dumps to clean, healthy neighbourhoods -- over the years, or are working hard to achieve the zero-landfill status. It is time to applaud their efforts, understand what they are doing, and ensure that others follow.

Speakers
Sunita Narain, director general, CSE; Chandra Bhushan, deputy director general, CSE; City Commissioners and Chief Health Officers of participating cities / municipal corporations
