Programme Officer/ Senior Research Associate for CEMS – Environment Governance Unit

The Centre for Science and Environment (CSE) is a public interest research and advocacy organisation based in New Delhi. CSE researches into, lobbies for and communicates the urgency of development that is both sustainable and equitable.

CSE’s Environment Governance unit covers wide areas of research and advocacy including industrial environment and pollution, regulators’ capacity building, stakeholders’ capacity building on EIA, SIA, CIA, CSR, Waste management, Forestry and community support. 

The advertised position is expected to work closely with central and state environmental regulators, industries and stakeholders to develop and promote real time pollution monitoring systems/ continuous emission monitoring system (CEMS) in India. It involves high quality primary and secondary research, due-diligence, report writing, advocacy and trainings for capacity building of Indian regulators. 

Duties and responsibilities

  1. Primary and secondary research and analysis on continuous emission monitoring system(CEMS), continuous effluent quality monitoring system (CEQMS), pollution control, monitoring and reporting technology, regulations, best practices etc.

  2. Writing high quality reports/papers/company profiles

  3. Field and industrial visits (30% of time)

  4. Close interaction with stakeholders- industry, device maker, service providers, regulators, 

  5. Training and advocacy through meetings/workshops/conferences in India and overseas

  6. Other related responsibilities as given by supervisor/Team head 

 

Must have competencies:

  1. Experience in Industrial pollution monitoring technology and process, Analytical Instrumentation, Laboratory level experience of air pollution and effluent analysis

  2. Thorough understanding of pollution monitoring and reporting system and technologies (like CEMS, CEQMS, data acquisition system, calibration system) in India and industrialised countries

  3. Understanding of environmental rules and regulations,  industrial operations, compliance and new developments in the area of professional discipline

  4. A team player having ability to work independently under given timelines

  5. Published technical reports/papers as author/co-author/contributor

Qualifications:

Essential qualification - Minimum BE/ B.Tech/ ME/ M.Tech/ M.Sc/ MS or equivalent degree in engineering, environment engineering or environmental science or relevant field

Work experience - Minimum 3  years

Language requirements - Proficiency in spoken and written English
