Training Programme on Mine Management and Compliance Assurance

A two-week training programme on Mine Management and Compliance Assurance was conducted from 28th Nov to 9 th Dec 2016 by the Centre for Science and Environment (CSE), at CSE’s main office located at New Delhi, India. There were 20 participants from various government organizations, consultants, private organizations who were trained during the programme. The objective of this training programme was to build capacity of the participants in best practices for mine management and various compliance assurances involved.

Mr. Sujit Kumar Singh, Senior Programme Manager, Impact Assessment, CSE took the welcome session where he explained to the participants about CSE and highlighted the aim of the training and why it is necessary. This was followed by a brief discussion on the expectations of the participants from the programme. Some of the important topics that were covered during the training programme are Environmental Clearance process, Mining and its impact, Environmental and social laws and rules applicable to mining projects, Air & Water quality Assessment, Mineral Exploration, Mine Planning, Explosives and its significance, Mine hydrology, Stone quarry and issues related with it, Mine safety. There was also an industrial visit to J K Laxmi limestone Opencast mines in Sirohi and Mochia Underground mine in Jawar, Rajasthan, where participants were explained about various activities of drilling, blasting, mucking and transportation of ore from the site to the crushing and beneficiation area.

Eminent faculty conduct various session during the programme which comprise of CSE’s internal staff as well as external experts from ISM Dhanbad. All participants were satisfied with the programme and the knowledge they acquired during the programme. Many also gave very constructive feedback on how to make the programme even better.
