Orientation Workshop on Sustainable Transport Infrastructure and Parking Policy

Centre for Science and Environment (CSE) organised an orientation workshop with Ghaziabad Nagar Nigam on Sustainable Transport Infrastructure and Parking Policy for a multi-stakeholder group in Ghaziabad on December 28, 2012.

The objective of the workshop was to share the initiatives of Delhi and also discuss the clean air and mobility issues of Ghaziabad especially focusing on the non-motorised transport, walkability and parking policy issues.

The workshop brought together a wide spectrum of stakeholders who are involved with the implementation of the clean air, transportation and mobility related policies in Ghaziabad. More than 80 participants attended and participated in the workshop. There was representation from Ghaziabad Nagar Nigam, Ghaziabad Development Authority, District Administration, Transport department, Uttar Pradesh Road Transport Corporation, Uttar Pradesh State Industrial Development Corporation, National Capital Region Cell, Public Works Departments, Traffic Police, Resident Welfare Associations, media etc.

The panelists included Chairperson, Environment Pollution (Prevention and Control) Authority for National Capital Region; Commissioner, Ghaziabad Nagar Nigam; Ms. Romi Roy, UTTIPEC; Additional District Magistrate; Superintendent of Police Traffic, Town Planner, Ghaziabad Development Authority etc. CSE highlighted about the air pollution and transportation challenges of Ghaziabad and talked about the sustainable transportation strategies that Ghaziabad can adopt. The other panelists also shared their concerns about the city and also talked about some of the new initiatives that the city is planning to implement. The discussion focused on the challenges and how to implement the sustainable transportation strategies to make it a liveable city.
