Fifth National Research Conference on Climate Change Indian Institute of Technology Delhi

December 19-20, 2014

Indian Institute of Technology Delhi, Indian Institute of Technology Madras, Indian Institute of Science Bangalore and Centre for Science and Environment, under the banner Indian Climate Research Network, organized the Fifth National Research Conference on Climate Change, at IIT-Delhi on December 19-20, 2014.

The conference covered topics related to the scientific, technical, economic and policy aspects of climate change in India. This event, the fifth in the series, was organised with the objective of nurturing and enhancing a dedicated network of climate researchers.

This series aims to further develop the capacity of climate research and action in India by:

  1. Developing an arena for promoting interaction among researchers, analysts and practitioners

  2. Enhancing the understanding of current state of activities and research capabilities in South Asia and thereby identifying key lacunae

  3. Deepening and broadening engagement on the climate issue with a particular focus on smaller academic institutions, NGOs and young scholars

  4. Strengthening a sense of ‘community’ among researchers

  5. Exploring ways to effectively link climate research and action programmes

The conference this year will include discussions related to the findings and analyses of the IPCC 5th assessment report, its implications for India, impacts on different livelihoods, climate policy at the national and state level, mitigation and low carbon development strategies.

The 2014 conference included a special session on Adaptation with a panel discussion involving adaptation practitioners across the country.  The event also witnessed the launch of the book “Rising to the call: Good practices of climate change adaptation in India” by the Hon’ble Minister of Environment Forests and Climate Change, Shri Prakash Javadekar.
