Training Program on City Sanitation Plan - Part III, April 11-13, 2016 (Vijayawada, Andhra Pradesh)

 

The third handholding training on the “Preparation of City Sanitation Plan (CSP)- Part III” took place at Fortune Hotel, Vijayawada, Andhra Pradesh 11-13 April, 2016. 

The training is part of a three stage handholding process for the preparation of CSPs for Andhra Pradesh, followed by a review workshop. The first training on Preparation of City Sanitation Plan Part-I click here was held from 1-3 July, 2015 at ESCI, Hyderabad followed by Part-II click here at Fortune Hotel, Vijayawada from 14-16 October, 2015. 

Participants from 10 cities (Anantpur, Amlapuram, Bhimavaram, Nellore, Nasaraopet, Nandyal, Eluru, Kakinada, Kadiri, Chilakarapet) attended the training. The participants included health inspectors, municipal engineers, commissioners and accountants. 

During the inaugural session, participants were welcomed by Mr. Dirk Walter (Project Director - SNUSP II, GIZ) along with the CSE team (Ridhima Gupta, Sr Research Associate and Bhitush Luthra, Sr. Research Associate). CSE-GIZ engagement was talked about to support the process of CSP. He also highlighted how the CSP process is contributing towards the Swachh Bharat Mission and other programmes such as the Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation (AMRUT) programme launched by the Govt. of India.   

The main aim of this training was to involve stakeholders and to devise a draft city sanitation plan for their respective cities. The participants discussed and worked on preparing an action plan indicating short, medium and long term goals. A roadmap was also discussed for participants to strengthen the existing draft CSP after the training along with next steps. There was also a field trip organized to a vermi-compost site which is managed by Vijayawada Municipal Corporation, which participants seemed to appreciate. 

 At the end of the training programme, Dr Suresh Kumar Rohilla (Programme Director- Water Programme, CSE) encouraged and motivated the participants to implement the CSPs in their cities as it is an integral part for mainstreaming citywide sanitation in the country. He concluded by giving the vote of thanks.
