The global water crisis is a crisis of mismanagement. Indiscriminate use of water and the “flush and forget” mindset has worsened the crisis by adding the pollution challenge. This has severe implications on the society, especially the poor, its health and socio-economic well-being. Take for instance India where about 85 per cent of urban sewage goes untreated, polluting water supply sources like rivers, lakes and groundwater. And remember polluted water is the biggest killer of babies (infants).
The soil strata in general comprises of clayey silt soils in the top layers followed by sandy silt to silty sands at depths in most of the sectors.

Sustainable Urban Water Management: 2011- 2012: Policies and Practices
Centre for Science and Environment (CSE), a New Delhi based research and policy advocacy organization has been working on water issues since the early 80s. The Ministry of Urban Development, Government of India has nominated CSE as a Centre of Excellence in the area of “Sustainable Water Management”.
