218 coal mines violating EIA notification 2006

According to the Press Information Bureau, 218 mines of Coal India Limited (CIL) are operating in violation to the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) Notification 2006. These are pre-1994 mines when the EIA notification was not in place.

Jindal Steel and Power Ltd. is planning to set up an 4 million tonnes per annum (TPA) coal mining project in Raigarh district of Chattisgarh. On behalf of the local community, Ekta Parishad, requested us to technically evaluate the Rapid Environment Impact Assessment done for the project.

Jayaswals Neco Ltd. (JNL) is planning to set up an 1.2 million tonnes per annum (TPA) coal mining project in Raigarh district of Chattisgarh. On behalf of the local community there, two activists (from Ekta Parishad and Jan Chetna) requested the Centre for Science and Environment, New Delhi, to technically evaluate the Rapid Environment Impact Assessment done for the project.

Ekta Parishad on behalf of the local communities of Raigarh district of Chattisgarh requested us to technically evaluate the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) document of Gare IV/1 Coal Mine Extension project at Village Nagarmuda, Janjgir, Tapranga, Dongamauha, Dhaurabhanta and Aamgaon in Tehsi; Gharghoda, District Raigarh of Chattisgarh.
