Challenges of Air Quality and Mobility Management in South Asian Cities

Kathmandu, Nepal

Friday, July 27, 2012

Almost every South Asian city today is reeling under severe air pollution and gridlocked urban traffic – Kathmandu is no exception. In fact, Kathmandu’s location in a bowl-shaped valley makes the city susceptible to greater air pollution – and leaves it grappling with more severe challenges.

Centre for Science and Environment (CSE), the New Delhi-based research and advocacy organisation, invites you to attend a Media Briefing on the Challenges of Air Quality and Mobility Management in Cities in South Asia.

VENUE: Lecture Hall, Nepal Tourism Board,
Bhrikuti Mandap, Kathmandu, Nepal
DAY & DATE:
Friday, July 27, 2012
TIME:
10:00 AM onwards

This briefing is part of a series of country media meetings that CSE is planning across the South Asian region – two similar briefings have already been held in Dhaka and Colombo.

Through this briefing, we hope the two cities of Delhi and Kathmandu will share each other's experiences, learn from them and join hands in battling these problems and in arriving at viable and sustainable solutions.

CSE has been a pioneer in campaigning for clean air in cities. It has successfully initiated and led a campaign to improve Delhi's air quality; in the 1990s, the campaign had resulted in the introduction of CNG as the fuel of choice in the city's public transport. In the last decade and a half, CSE has continued to work towards providing solutions in terms of policy change.

Please do join us at the briefing.

  • Participation at the briefing is open to all journalists working in Nepal.
