The Centre for Science and Environment (CSE) in partnership with the Central Environmental Authority (CEA), Sri Lanka conducted a four day training programme on Urban and Industrial Wastewater Treatment: Challenges, Options and Solutions for CEA’s provincial officers from March12-15, 2013 in Colombo, Sri Lanka.
The four day capacity building training workshop was attended by 55 CEA provincial officials and received an overwhelming response. Sri Lanka has wastewater issues pertaining to refineries and textiles and considering this, the objective of the training was to build capacity of the officers in wastewater treatment in order to ensure better inspection and monitoring.
The training covered the issues associated with urban and industrial wastewater treatment, overview on various wastewater treatment technologies, decentralized wastewater treatment technologies and its planning and design, industrial wastewater characteristics, water accounting, advanced wastewater treatment technologies, designing of water quality monitoring network and class exercises on the following topics.
The keynote speakers for the training programme were Dr. DD Basu, Advisor, CSE, Mr. Sujit Kumar Singh, Deputy Programme Manager, CSE and Ms. Swati Singh Sambyal, Research Associate, CSE.
CSE in association with CEA’s Central Provincial Office also conducted a one day workshop on Biomedical Waste Management for the health officers, doctors, nurses in Kandy, Sri Lanka on March 16, 2013. The workshop was appreciated by the Honorable governor for Central Province-Sri Lanka, the participants from the Department of Health and the officers of CEA Authority. The presentations by Mr. Sujit Kumar Singh were appreciated and were found very informative. CEA has mentioned to seek for CSE’s supplementary assistance to implement the most appropriate practice for resourceful clinical waste management system
in Central province of Sri Lanka.
Centre for Science and Environment (CSE) in collaboration with Ministry of Environment and Forests (MoEF) and Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) is conducting the training and capacity building programmes for State Pollution Control Boards (SPCBs) and Pollution Control Committees (PCCs).
CSE is organising four one week Advanced Training Programmes and two one month National Minimum Training Programmes during 2013-14 as per the collaboration with CPCB and MoEF.
