The Mormugao port located in North Goa is planning to develop a waterfront (new harbor and breakwater) west of the breakwater at the existing Mormugao port. WAPCOS has prepared the Environment Impact Assessment report for the project.

Pollution in Sonbhadra area is not new and has been talked about for many years but no action has been taken to check the pollution. This has led to long term health impacts which have now started to show up in the population of the region. CSE took up a study to look at these health impacts and to investigate the possible causes.

Are environment and forest clearances a hindrance to development in the country?

No, says our study. The study analyses the environment and forest clearances granted during the 11th Five Year Plan, from April 2007 till August 2011.

The pace of such clearances during this period has been unprecedented.

The Ministry of Environment and Forests (MoEF) on September 14, 2012 has constituted a committee to look into violations of environmental and coastal regulation zone clearances by Adani Port and SEZ Ltd. in Mundra taluka of Kutch district in Gujarat.

Centre for Science and Environment (CSE) presented its environmental assessment of Jasodharpur Industrial Area (JIA) in a public meeting on June 11, 2012 held at Maganpur village near Kotdwar town in Pauri Garhwal district of Uttarakhand.

The Uttarakhand Environment Protection and Pollution Control Board had requested CSE to carry out this assessment.

 Bharuch Enviro Infrastructure Ltd. (BEIL) has proposed to set up a Treatment, Storage and Disposal Facility (TSDF) at Dahej Industrial Estate, along with two Multiple Effect Evaporation (MEE) plants and various utilities and infrastructure facilities.The project involves a Secured Landfill Facility (SLF) for Hazardous waste with a capacity of 1.4 MTPA (14 Lacs MT). Capacity of the MEE plants is 600 KL/day (Phase wise: 3 X 200 KL/day)2. The duration of operation of the TSDF site is 15 years.
 
 

Background of the technical report
Nuclear Power Corporation of India Limited (NPCIL) is planning to set up a 6,000 MWe nuclear power plant in Bhavnagar district of Gujarat. On behalf of the local community there, an NGO called Paryavaran Mitra requested the Centre for Science and Environment to technically evaluate the Environment Impact Assessment (EIA) report of the project.
