CSE’s short-term EIA training programme UNDERSTANDING EIA: FROM SCREENING TO DECISION MAKING

Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) is an important tool for decisionmakers, regulators and stakeholders to understand the potential impacts (adverse as well as favourable) of the developmental activities on environment and society. EIA is a process to internalize the externalities associated with the project activities and cost for decision—making.

Training programme on SOCIAL IMPACT ASSESSMENT

Centre for Science and Environment recognises Social Impact Assessment (SIA) as an important tool to inform decision makers, regulators and stakeholders about the possible social and economic impacts of a development project. To be effective, SIA requires the active involvement of all concerned stakeholders. CSE has developed a five-day training programme aimed at giving practical exposure to participants on SIA with specific reference to infrastructure, mining and other industrial projects.

Five days training programme on “Social Impact Assessment” in New Delhi (5-9 October, 2015)

Training programme on Environmental and Social Impact Assessment in Tanzania (June 1-4, 2015)

A four day training programme on Environmental and Social Impact Assessment was conducted by Centre for Science and Environment (CSE), New Delhi in collaboration with the Ministry of Energy and Minerals (MEM), Tanzania. There were 52 senior and mid level officials from the mining division of the ministry, who were trained during the programme.

Four day training programme on Waste Management for CEA officials (18-21 May, 2015)

CSE in collaboration with Central Environmental Authority (CEA), Sri Lanka conducted a four day training programme for 45 senior level CEA officials from the nine provinces of Sri Lanka. The programme was inaugurated by K.H. Muthukudaarachchi,

MoU signing with Central Environmental Authority (CEA) on May 22, 2015

CSE has been working with Central Environment Authority (CEA) on various capacity building initiatives since 2011. CSE also signed a three year Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with CEA in March, 2012 to assist CEA in monitoring and compliance of development projects (i.e. EIA), advocate laboratory support and encourage research and knowledge dissemination. Over a period of time, CSE has conducted programmes on EIA, Urban and Industrial Wastewater, Environmental Awareness and Waste Management and has trained over 300 officials in Sri Lanka and more than 30 in India.

Seminar on EIA for sustainable development, Ambo University, Ambo, Ethiopia

 The Biology Department of Ambo University conducted a one-day seminar on EIA for Sustainable Development on March 20, 2015 . The programme was supported by Centre for Science and Environment (CSE), New Delhi, India, by providing two of their resource persons for lectures. The programme was attended by over 100 participants.
