WHAT WE TEST: PESTICIDES | Centre for Science and Environment



The CSE Lab analyses the following groups of widely used pesticides in India

Chlorinated hydrocarbons such as DDT, DDD, DDE, g-HCH, lindane, aldrin, dieldrin, a, b - endosulphan, endosulphan sulphate and heptachlor, etc.

Organophosphorus pesticides like dimethoate diazinon, phosphamidon, methyl parathion malathion, monocrotophos, chlorpyriphos etc.

Carbamates like carbaryl, carbofuran, aldicarb, oxamyl, methomyl etc.

Herbicides such as Atrazine, paraquat, 2,4-D, Butachlor, simazine, glyphosate, dalapon, diuron, isoproturon, alachlor, pendimethalin, trifluralin, Clodinafop-propargyl, fenoxaprop-ethyl

Fungides like Maneb, Thiram, Zineb, Tridemorph, captan, tridemorph, tricyclazole, carbendazin, mancozeb, sulfur, ziram, captafol

Synthetic pyrethroids like Deltramethrin, cypermethrin, fenvalrate, fluvalinate

Samples from the following media are analysed:

Water - river, ground and drinking water

Soil - adjoining residential areas and areas in proximity to agricultural fields

Food commodities

• Dairy products viz. milk, butter, ghee, eggs;

• Crops - cereals, vegetables and fruits,

• Mutton, fish and chicken

• Edible oils, spices

• Packaged, processed and tinned food-bread, infant formula, fruits and vegetables, jam, jelly, juices and dry fruits

Human tissues

• Blood

• Fat

• Breast milk

• Industrial effluents


  • CSE invites colleges/ universities to participate in the Ganga Monitoring Project

    CSE is conducting a profile of the Water Quality of the holy river, Ganga. The river Ganga covers almost five states: namely Uttrakhand, Uttar Pradesh, Jharkhand, Bihar and West Bengal. During its journey, it runs through almost 29 cities, 70 towns and thousands of villages - a 2,525 km journey from Gangotri to Ganga Sagar (Bay of Bengal).
