Information shared by MoEF under RTI is minimal and partial. Further it took MoEF far more than a month to respond to the two RTIs filed by CSE. It makes mockery of the appraisal process as evident in the wide gap between information sought by us and the amount of information shared by the Union Ministry of Environment and Forests (MoEF- GoI). This opaqueness must go if cities have to demonstrate their progress towards sustainability.

CSE's recommendations for the Pesticides Management Bill, 2008.

India regulates its pesticides under the Insecticides Act 1968. This Act, however, hasn’t been able to stop the pesticides from contaminating the environment and having a deleterious impact on health. THe Insecticides Act 1968 will be replaced by the Pesticides Management Bill 2008. A lot of hopes were pinned on the Pesticides Management Bill 2008, but the bill hasn't been able to make human and environmental health a priority. CSE has extensively worked on impacts of pesticides and their environmental and human health impacts and it is in this light that CSE makes a few recommendations.

The Centre for Science and Environment(CSE) welcomes Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) proposal to hike parking charges as a step towards further reform.

  • City needs high parking charges to control traffic chaos and dampen parking demand and car usage.
