Training Programme for Environmental Regulators: 2011-12

We are delighted to inform you that the Centre for Science and Environment (CSE) in collaboration with Ministry of Environment and Forests (MoEF) and Central Pollution Control Board has started a training and capacity building programme for State Pollution Control Board (SPCB) and State Pollution Control Committee (SPCC). In 2010-11, we organised 3 successful training programmes which included 1-one month National Minimum Training for junior officials and 2-one week advanced training programme for mid/senior level officers. There was good participation from almost all the boards.

As per the agreement between CSE, CPCB and MoEF , this year, we are organising 4-one week advanced training programme and 2-one month National Minimum Training Programme.

The course is free of cost. CSE will take care of the participants' accommodation, food etc. However, the pollution control board/ committee will have to pay for travel, TA/DA etc.

The one week advance training programme is open for officials with about 5-10 years of working experience in SPCB. The one month training programme is for newly recruited officials or officials with 1-5 years of experience.

One month-National Minimum Training Programme

Compliance, Monitoring and Enforcement

This programme endeavours to provide the participants in-depth knowledge, keen understanding, problem-solving skills and practical experience on the issues relating to environmental pollution in India. This training programme is similar to an induction training programme. The training programme will consist of lectures, class exercises, group discussions, field visits, on-site compliance monitoring and inspection exercises, lab training etc.

September 19-23, 2011

One week-Advanced Training programme

Hazardous Waste Management and Remediation of Contaminated Sites

The programme will discuss national and international laws applicable for hazardous waste management and design aspect of TSDF sites. It will provide an awareness on suitable methods for remediation of contaminated sites, issues and challenges governing remediation and appropriate management of contaminated sites. The training programme will have lectures and field trips to enable participants to learn the best practices in inspection, monitoring and compliance assurance of TSDF sites during design, construction and operational phase.

November 14-18, 2011

One week-Advanced Training programme

Pollution Monitoring Techniques and Instrumentation (only for Lab Scientists)

The programme will discuss the monitoring techniques for water quality, air quality and trace metal and organic analysis. The participants will be exposed to hand-on experience on the equipments for analysis of water and air pollution parameter, including heavy metal and organic pollutant analysis. The programme will also have lectures and demonstration on latest technologies for pollution monitoring.

December 19-23, 2011

One week-Advanced Training programme

Advance Wastewater Treatment Technologies and the role of Decentralised Wastewater Management

The programme will discuss the advanced wastewater treatment technologies and design and operation of CETPs and STPs. It will also introduce the participants to the role of decentralised waste management. The training programmes will have lectures and field trips to enable participants to learn the best practices in inspection, monitoring and compliance assurance of CETPs and STPs.

One month-National Minimum Training Programme

Environmental Management of Mines

The programme aims to provide the participants an understanding on various laws and policies on environmental and social issues concerning mines. It will also give an insight on assessing and regulating environmental performance of mines with an emphasis on air pollution control, topsoil and overburden management, reclamation and case studies on success stories. The training programme will consist of lectures, class exercises, group discussions and field visits to make the session more interactive and effective.
