Is permaculture a hype? Or, the ultimate answer to farmers' plight, food shortage, and environmental challenges posed by industrial agriculture? Down to Earth’s special edition “New Civilisation, Primitive Wisdom” analyses how permaculture farming, which spread across the West as part of the hippie movement, is fast gaining ground in India among subsistence farmers and those who want to grow their own food.
The edition is being released at the International Permaculture Convergence (IPC) 2017, a platform for permaculture practitioners around the world to share their experiences, learn from each other and strategize about the future of the permaculture movement.
Reporting from the IPC conference, DTE will attempt to analyse whether permaculture can indeed be the way towards empowering rural communities, a solution for developing sustainable agriculture and an answer to climate change.
