2nd Online Training for Onsite and Offsite Management of Sewage for Citywide Sanitation

CSE Programme Support Unit to Department of Urban Development (Government of Uttar Pradesh) in collaboration with Regional Centre for Urban and Environmental Studies (RCUES) Lucknow is organizing an Online Training on ‘Onsite and Offsite Management of Sewage for Citywide Sanitation.

As per census 2011, around 55% of households in urban Uttar Pradesh are dependent upon onsite sanitation systems like septic tanks. CSE (2018) study on excreta management of 66 cities in Uttar Pradesh showed that majority of the septic tanks in urban Uttar Pradesh are not properly designed and end up contaminating the surrounding. There is a need for effective management of faecal sludge across the sanitation value chain. Swachh Bharat Mission (Urban) has issued an advisory on July 2020 for ‘Onsite and Offsite Sewage Management Practices’. The training is aimed at supporting U.P state and ULBs journey beyond ODF and preparing for ODF++ / Water+ and Swachh Survekshan 2020.

Objective: The objective of the training is to introduce and sensitize municipal functionaries and state officials on tools and approaches for effective citywide sanitation. The training would sensitize participants on the SBM Urban Advisory for Onsite and Offsite Sewage Management Practices and introduce participants to City Sanitation Planning, Shit Flow Diagram tool, effective Faecal Sludge and Septage Management and Decentralized Waste Water Treatment Plants.  

Target Audience:

• Day-1 of the training is intended for all municipal functionaries including decision makers like Municipal Commissioner, Executive Officers etc.
• Day-2 of the training is intended for municipal functionaries working on-ground in implementing city sanitation planning.

This training would also be suitable for officials from state parastatal organization like UP Jal Nigam responsible for planning and designing city sanitation.
