Building better Orientation training on sustainable building practices and policies

Date: February 18-20, 2015

Centre for Science and Environment’s Sustainable Buildings and Habitat Programme is organising three days orientation training on science and politics of green buildings. The orientation training aims to discuss the importance of sustainable development and how can buildings can contribute to sustainability of our future. Green buildings concept has rapidly captured the popular imagination and is gaining patronage among real estate developers and regulators. It is crucial to understand the science of green features to derive effective and efficient long-term benefits. 

Course content: The orientation training will contextualise the concept of green buildings and energy efficiency within the bigger picture of environmental fall out of rapid urbanization of Indian population and landmass. The course will demystify multiple aspects of green building that includes energy-efficiency, water efficiency, building materials and fiscal policies. Develop understanding of when and how to adopt passive and active design strategies. The course will also orient participants on current and proposed regulations which will govern the sustainable development of the Indian building sector. The orientation training will include a field trip to one of the celebrated green building in National Capital Region and a group exercise.

The orientation training is scheduled from February 18-20, 2015. The course is open for students and young professionals from the fields of architecture, planning, environment and engineering. Participants will be award certificate on successful completion of the orientation training. 

Lectures, presentations, classroom exercises and field trips would be conducted by CSE experts, eminent architects and professionals.

Course fee: Rs. 9,000 per participant (50% discount in course fee for students and NGOs). The fee includes resource material, refreshments, lunch and transportation for field visits. The course fee does not include participant’s accommodation and travel. CSE can help book appropriate accommodation for the outstation participants close to the venue, the cost for which will be borne by the participants.
