How do we design for resource efficiency and sufficiency in a built environment? How can we practice what we preach—build and live sustainably? We had a compelling reason to ask these questions, having just begun building our own environmental training institute, in the foothills of the rugged Aravalli ranges in the Alwar district of Rajasthan, India.
It offered us an immense opportunity to learn constantly, to test our knowledge, and to demonstrate processes such as how to prevent water from flowing away and reduce its use and abuse; how to recycle and reuse waste; reduce energy footprint; and enrich local vegetation while maintaining a healthy ambience and wellbeing.
