To promote the market for city compost in India, the Government of India came out with a fixed subsidyunder its policy on promotion for city compost. But this failed due to lack of implementation and has seen very dispersed stakeholder participation.
There is clearly ademand for city compost in the agrarian sector inIndia, but the acceptability of the product has beenmarred by poor quality and low return of investment.
CSE, in an analysis of the gaps in the existing composting policy of India, has suggested changes to strengthenthe current marketing mechanisms and policy of citycompost in India.
