Urbanisation is causing rise in temperature across Indian cities and the youngest inhabitants are particularly vulnerable to this extreme heat. Children often stay for long duration in classrooms, which can sometimes be thermally uncomfortable due to a lack of proper design. Moreover, their commute under the blazing sun through heat-trapping urban landscapes and outdoor activities during peak heat hours can elevate their risk of dehydration, heat exhaustion, and heatstroke.
This session will delve into the critical issue of heat impacts on children and explore potential solutions. It will also unpack how schools can use the environmental audit by CSE’s Green Schools Programme (GSP) as a tool to understand their campuses better. Join us as we discuss actionable solutions that schools and city managers can take to safeguard the young population.
