The National Mission for Clean Ganga (NMCG), under the Ministry of Jal Shakti of the Government of India, is organising its annual Ganga Utsav in Haridwar. Centre for Science and Environment (CSE), a long-standing partner of NMCG, will release a new publication on this occasion; CSE will also conduct two key technical sessions and set up a knowledge resource booth at the event.
Ganga Utsav is an annual event organised by the NMCG to celebrate the outcomes and success ofthe Clean Ganga Mission. The year 2024 marks a decade of commitment towards the cause.The one-day event will include technical sessions, outreach activities and launch of knowledge products, along with a festival of performing arts, all related to the various aspects of the NamamiGange programme.
CSE’s technical sessions at Ganga Utsav
Time- 10:10-11:15
The session will cover the national framework on safe reuse of treated water, review of various state water reuse policies, work undertaken by ULBs towards circularity, R&D and water reuse technologies etc.
During this session, Dr. Sumita Singhal, Programme Manager, Water Programme, provided insights into state-level policies and ongoing practices for the reuse of treated water in India.
Time- 11:40-12:20
The session will focus on involvement of local communities in the conservation and management of riverine systems, ecological and cultural significance of rivers,and innovative solutions tailored to local needs.
During this session moderated by Sh. Rajeev Ranjan Mishra, Chief Advisor, NIUA, Mr. Depinder Kapur, Director, Water Programme, highlighted the connection between river cities and their sanitation landscape.
