The first assault of environmental degradation is on our bodies. There is a definite and tangible link between our environment and our health, but this linkage is complex and often disputed. Centre for Science and Environment (CSE) and Down to Earth would like to invite you to the release of a new report, Body Burden 2015: State of India’s Health. The report focuses on the risk factors that affect our health while examining old and new threats and why these should worry us. The book lays special emphasis on the following: contaminated water, polluted air, climate change, sanitation, pesticides, forest degradation and lifestyle-related issues. It covers India comprehensively and offers interesting facts and insights such as: which states are the highest pesticide users and the impact on health; what are the trends on cancer incidence in India and the possible reasons; which states have the highest deforestation rates and the impact, among many other analyses and insights. Finally, what would it take to avert future health catastrophes?
