New Delhi, December 17, 2020: Centre for Science and Environment’s School of Water and Waste (under the aegis of the Anil Agarwal Environment Training Institute or AAETI) launched a web-based Compendium of Green Infrastructure Network Systems (C-GINS) here, at an international online conclave organised jointly by CSE, the University of West England (UWE) Bristol and the International Water Security Network (IWSN).
The compendium is a repository of more than 75 case studies of Green Infrastructure and Water-Sensitive Urban Design and Planning (WSUDP) that have been implemented across the world. Says Suresh Rohilla, senior director, water and wastewater management, CSE: “The compendium focuses on policy, planning and project initiatives, with the objective of water conservation, pollution abatement and urban flood mitigation.”
The two-day online conclave in which the compendium was launched is part of an ongoing partnership between CSE and the University of West England. It was jointly inaugurated yesterday by Suresh Rohilla (CSE) and Chad Staddon, director, IWSN. The conclave sessions highlighted the importance of green infrastructure, its potential in addressing issues related to urban water management, and instruments for implementation of green infrastructure strategies.
Kalanithy Vairavamoorthy, executive director, International Water Association (IWA), delivered the keynote address at the conclave, stressing on the need to mainstream nature-based solutions and green infrastructure to tackle 21st century issues in urban water management. “The C-GINS compendium brings together and celebrates the best management practices across the world. It recognises the importance of the initiative in advocacy and in scaling up green infrastructure and nature-based solutions," he said.
