Deputy Programme Manager for Antibiotics and Antimicrobial Resistance Programme of Food Safety and Toxins Unit

Food Safety and Toxins Unit of the Centre for Science and Environment (CSE) is looking for an experienced candidate as Deputy Programme Manager to work on:

A programme to address the animal and environmental aspects of antibiotic resistance, which is a huge global public health threat of current times and is linked to antibiotic misuse in human and non-human sectors. The programme aims at limiting antibiotic misuse in food producing-animals and containing the spread of antibiotic resistance through animal and environmental routes. The programme also involves helping implementation of national and state level action plans to contain antimicrobial resistance in India and beyond. 

About CSE

CSE is a public interest research and advocacy organisation based in New Delhi. CSE researches into, lobbies for and communicates the urgency of development that is both sustainable and equitable. 

Job profile:

The candidate is expected to manage and lead the policy research, advocacy, communication and capacity building efforts to push for the objectives of the programme. The job will entail research, writing policy papers; communicating through write-ups and articles; and interacting with stakeholders – policy makers and regulators in different government ministries/departments, scientific community (such as doctors, veterinarians, scientists), media, industry, and NGOs – to push for change.

The research would include collection, analysis and synthesis of data/information from secondary and primary sources.It would also require coordination with CSE’s environment monitoring laboratory (EML). Writing for Down To Earth, CSE’s fortnightly magazine, and attending to media queries would be integral to the communication involved in the job. The advocacy campaign will include building networks, making presentations and organizing and participating in meetings and conferences. The candidate should be open to travel within and outside India. The candidate is expected to work independently and also manage other responsibilities or resource in the team, if required.

Qualification and Experience:

At least 5-7 years of relevant work experience is desired. Candidates with lesser experience will be considered for junior positions. Preference will be given to:

  • Candidates with experience in pushing policymakers and advocating for change in the domains of public interest and public health.
  • Candidates with a background in science/lifes science

  • Communication and networking skills
  • Hard working, self-motivated and disciplined work ethic

CSE pays a competitive salary that will be commensurate with qualification and experience.
