Background India, like other emerging economies, looks set to remain dependent on coal in the short to medium term for its economic growth. However, as countries begin to confront coal’s environmental impacts, policymakers and industry alike must now address important questions of sustainability and environmental responsibility in its management and use.

The concentrated solar power has not progressed much in India. Of the seven plants allocated by the government in 2011, only three plants, of total 200 MW capacity, have been commissioned. Solar thermal applications like water heating, industrial applications and space heating and cooling has also not taken off in the large scale, as one would expect given the immense potential of these applications. To discuss all these issues and explore ways to scale up these technologies, we are organizing this one day conference will all concerned stakeholders.
June 23, 2015: The GRP team together with the CSE’s Media Resource Centre organized a two day media briefing workshop on June 17-18, 2015 at Vijayawada, Andhra Pradesh. The workshop brought together more than 35 journalists from four states - Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Karnataka and Tamil Nadu.

April 13, 2015: The GRP team associated in a 3-days media briefing programme organized by the CSE‘s Media Resource Centre in Chhattisgarh. Nearly 40 journalists from 7 states: Chhattisgarh, Bihar, Jharkhand, Uttar Pradesh (UP), Madhya Pradesh (MP), West Bengal, Orissa, participated in the event.
The collaborative workshop on Action for Clean Air in Gurgaon: Our City. We Care was a joint initiative of the Artemis Hospital, gurgaon and the New Delhi based Centre for Science and Environment. The city dialogue held on December 23, 2014 in Main Auditorium of Artemis Hospital, Gurgaon, and was attended by nearly 50 participants.
CSE's Green Rating Team is conducting a roundtable meeting in Mumbai to discuss its findings and recommendations to improve the thermal power sector’s environment performance. Market and business implications of proposed policy changes, which were suggested by the CSE study, will be discussed in the conference.
Germany has made remarkable progress in deployment of renewable energy. This energy transformation or ‘Energiewende’ from fossil fuel to renewable energy is attributed to German policies with particular focus on feed-in tariffs. It has encouraged solar rooftop installations and as of Dec 2013, Germany had an installed capacity of 8.7 gigawatts (GW) of solar rooftop.
