National Seminar on Promotion of Clean Energy Access in Northeast India
Date: June 23, 2023
The concentrated solar power has not progressed much in India. Of the seven plants allocated by the government in 2011, only three plants, of total 200 MW capacity, have been commissioned. Solar thermal applications like water heating, industrial applications and space heating and cooling has also not taken off in the large scale, as one would expect given the immense potential of these applications. To discuss all these issues and explore ways to scale up these technologies, we are organizing this one day conference will all concerned stakeholders.
Germany has made remarkable progress in deployment of renewable energy. This energy transformation or ‘Energiewende’ from fossil fuel to renewable energy is attributed to German policies with particular focus on feed-in tariffs. It has encouraged solar rooftop installations and as of Dec 2013, Germany had an installed capacity of 8.7 gigawatts (GW) of solar rooftop.
In the last decade renewable energy use has increased manifolds in the country. Presently, about 13% of power installed capacity and 6% of electricity comes from renewable sources. The National Action Plan for Climate Change has mandated increasing this to 15 % by 2020.
Centre for Science and Environment (CSE) organised a day-long round table on solar energy policy at the Magnolia Hall, India Habitat Centre, New Delhi on June 29, 2012.
