Feasibility study for Co-treatment and Co-Composting of Faecal Sludge with Sewage and organic MSW

Bijnor Nagar PalikaParishad (BNPP) has signed anMoU with Centre for Science and Environment (CSE), New Delhi. Under this MoU, CSE is providing support to BNPP to mainstream effective faecal sludge and septage management and implement City Sanitation Plan for abatement of river pollution and improving public health.

Under the Programme, a team of CSE visited Bijnor on 26th July 2019. The purpose of the visit was to carry out a feasibility study of Co-treatment and Co-Composting of feacal sludge with sewage and Municipal Solid Waste. FSM experts from Malaysia and Bangladesh- Mr DoraiNarayana (Former HOD, IWK) and Dr Abdullah Al-Muyeed, WaterAid, Bangladesh and Mr Suman Kanti Nath, WaterAid, Bangladesh and officials from UP Jal Nigam and Bijnor Municipality also joined the team in the visit.


Bijnor has a 24 MLD Sewage treatment plant, which is currently running at around 50% of the capacity by intercepting 6 main nullahs of the city. A technical feasibility study was conducted for co-treatment of Faecal sludge with Sewage. Also, the team conducted a preliminary site assessment study for showcasing a pilot project of Co-composting of Faecal sludge with Municipal Solid Waste (organic only).
