Centre for Science and Environment (India) and MESHA Kenya invite African journalists
Nairobi, Kenya
February 27, 2015
Cities across the global South are witnessing an unprecedented surge in air pollution and congestion – largely owing to the increasing numbers of private vehicles in urban areas. In Asia, Delhi and Beijing have been in the limelight for these reasons, and many African cities appear to be in a similar situation. With the World Health Organization (WHO) linking air-borne particulate pollution resulting from diesel vehicles to lung cancer, this issue has acquired a critical dimension.
Centre for Science and Environment (CSE), a leading research and advocacy think tank based in New Delhi, India (www.cseindia.org), has been at the forefront of the struggle against air pollution in the South Asian region for close to three decades. CSE is now organizing its First India-Africa Dialogue and Media Briefing on Air Quality and Mobility, in association with Media for Science, Health and Agriculture (MESHA)-Kenya. The meet will be held in Nairobi, Kenya on February 27, 2015.
The event is expected to bring together subject experts and media persons from across Africa on a platform to discuss with their Indian counterparts common issues related to vehicular air pollution, clean fuels, urban mobility and traffic congestion. This is an experience sharing workshop, with the hopes that representatives from both the parts of the global South will benefit from each other’s knowledge and experience.
The event is open for participation to African journalists – including freelancers -- who cover issues of environment and development, pollution, science, health and civil society initiatives. CSE and MESHA-Kenya will support the travel and accommodation of the selected outstation journalists who wish to travel to Nairobi for this event.
