Global Action on Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR): Priorities of Low-and Middle-income countries

Event completed

Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) is today a recognised global public health threat and a ‘silent pandemic’. Centre for Science and Environment (CSE), India has been advocating a global AMR response that is in line with the challenges faced by countries of the Global South, and offers executable solutions. Our work and point of view can be seen here.

In September this year, the course of future global action against AMR will be agreed upon at the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA); a political declaration is expected to be adopted at the UNGA’s High-Level Meeting on AMR. Presently, the draft of this declaration is being worked upon and negotiated among Member States. It is important the discussions are adequately informed about the priorities of Low - and MiddleIncome Countries, which vary due to the different drivers of AMR and the challenges and possibilities to fight against it

CSE has recently organised an international workshop for LMICs with extensive involvement of experts and stakeholders from African and Asian countries. The key takeaways from the rich and insightful workshop deliberations are presented in CSE’s new report ‘Priorities of Low- and Middle-Income Countries (LMICs) to inform the High-Level Meeting on AMR at UNGA 2024’. We invite you to a webinar to release and discuss this report.

The webinar will include a panel discussion where experts will share their reflections and perspectives on the way ahead in view of the ongoing negotiations. The broad areas of discussion would be financing of national action plans, financing of antibiotic R&D and access, food systems transformation through the preventive approach, managing antibiotic pollution from manufacturing, targets and their enablers and challenges at the national level.

PLEASE NOTE: This is a free Zoom webinar, and registration is open to all. All those who register will receive an automatic confirmation. However, the webinar can accommodate a limited number of attendees on a first come-first served basis only. Therefore, please try to join 5 minutes before the scheduled time.
