The Green Schools Programme is an ‘inspection’ or ‘survey’ of the school done by its students on its environmental practices (which we call environmental auditing) under the supervision of teachers. The students form teams and go around the school on an exploratory journey and find out what’s happening – to the water, air, land, energy and waste in the school. How is the school managing these issues? The teachers make the students learn about environment through making the students do this audit.
And the fun part is that till now the school was giving report cards to the students but now the students prepare a report card of the school on its environmental performance.
The audit is done with the help of an interesting handbook called the Green Schools Programme Manual. This manual gives you a step by step guidelines on how to conduct an environmental audit in the school.
Every year thousands of students are producing report cards of their schools and helping them improve and move towards becoming Greener schools.
Come join this movement to know where your school stands.
