A training programme titled ‘High Performance Buildings: Affordable Housing’ was conducted at AAETI from September 3-6. The 20 participants represented a diverse group belonging to civil and electrical engineering backgrounds from CPWD, academia from architectural and planning colleges, facility managers and architects working on various scales of projects.
The four-day training spanned issues and concerns such as challenges of urbanisation in the context of the Sustainable Development Goals and the National Cooling Action Plan; the various building codes and rating systems currently in existence; the types of wastes generated in the built environment and how architects can tackle the issue at neighbourhood and building levels; CSE's research on how to optimise the third skin (building envelope and micro climate) by understanding Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana and the challenges that lie ahead in affordable housing sector along with the research on thermal comfort and energy efficiency vis-a-vis the upcoming building material technologies.
