The Centre for Science and Environment (CSE), New Delhi, in collaboration with the Rajasthan State Pollution Control Board (RSPCB), is organizing a workshop on “Improving environmental performance of Industries in Kota “on July 24, 2024.
Kota city is one of the non-attainment cities, under National Clean Air Programme (NCAP) launched by MOEF & CC in 2019. An action plan has been prepared and is being implemented to reduce particulate matter concentration by 20 to 30 per cent by 2024. According to a 2021 study conducted by Centre for Science and Environment (CSE) titled “Industrial air pollution assessment of major districts of Rajasthan” stone crushers and stone mines are major contributors to fugitive emissions in Kota district. Additionally, inadequate industrial infrastructure, including improper handling and unscientific disposal of non-hazardous industrial waste, has been identified as a factor worsening the district’s air pollution.
Therefore, CSE is conducting this workshop with the aim to address the pressing issue of air pollution in Kota, specifically focusing on fugitive emissions originating from major industrial sectors and the inadequate industrial infrastructure. Through this workshop, the CSE aims to enhance the environmental performance of industries, which will reduce the pollution loading into the atmosphere.
The primary agenda of the workshop is to showcase the best practices of the sector and discuss various options and pathways with the stakeholders to reduce fugitive emissions and enhance industrial infrastructure to mitigate air pollution effectively. The event will have representation from regulatory authorities, the industrial development department (RIICO), industrial associations and industries.
