Background
Chunar Nagar Palika, with the financial support from National Mission for Clean Ganga (NMCG) and the technical assistance from Centre for Science and Environment, has set up a 10 KLD faecal sludge and septage treatment plant for the abatement of pollution of river Ganga and achieving the objective of safe sanitation.
Context
At present, the Demand Desludging has been practiced in Chunar town where households/property owners call for the desludging services. For equitable and enhanced services, the ULB is planning to initiate the Scheduled Desludging service, in which each property will have to empty their septic tanks every 3 years, at-least once. Through scheduled desludging cost optimization can be achieved, at the same time ensuring the performance efficiency of septic tanks. The ULB has added the provision of scheduled desludging in the FSSM Bye-laws (gazette notification in process). The desludging fee of ₹500 has been fixed by the City Sanitation Task Force. The ULB will organize awareness generation activities to educate households about the need for regular cleaning and larger environmental benefits

a. To share the need, benefits and process of scheduled desludging for effective FSSM
b. Inauguration of ‘Scheduled Desludging’ in Chunar
