Consultation Workshop on Inclusive solutions for water, sanitation and stormwater management for dense informal urban settlements

This event is completed

Participation only by invitation

Delhi contains different types of settlements, with distinctive features governing each type in terms of the level of civic amenities and status of houses and land. The city has 1,731 unauthorised colonies including Sangam Vihar, Asia’s largest. These colonies are dogged by a lack of basic civic amenities (including water and sanitation). The city also has an additional 69 unauthorised colonies which are inhabited by affluent sections of the society; these settlements have better infrastructural facilities, naturally.

Taking Sangam Vihar as a case in point, Centre for Science and Environment (CSE) has initiated a study on identifying “inclusive solutions for water, sanitation and stormwater management for dense informal urban settlements: Potential and challenges of retrofitting engineering solutions”. CSE is organising a Consultation Workshop to discuss and understand the challenges and opportunities of water and sanitation planning in dense settlements, vis-a-vis the Indian experience, and also to formulate a research methodology for carrying forward its ongoing study on the subject.
