New Delhi, April 6 – 8, 2015
Centre for Science and Environment (CSE), a public interest research and advocacy organisation based in New Delhi, India is organising an experience sharing regulatory training event -- India-Africa Experience Sharing Orientation Workshop on Clean Air and Sustainable Mobility in New Delhi from April 6 – 8, 2015. This will also include two days of best practice sharing between Asia and Africa. This programme represents our initiative to promote good regulatory practices, facilitate exchange of ideas and strengthen capacity in the region to address the emerging challenge of air quality and mobility.
This capacity building programme is specially designed to involve the regulators and key implementing agencies from different countries of Africa region working in the field of air quality management and transportation management to share the emerging best practices in Indian cities as well as the cities of different nations in Africa. A best practice sharing orientation workshop for the regulators and officials from the developing South has become important as cities of Africa and India/Asia are in the grip of increasing motorisation and its associated problems — pollution, congestion and road traffic fatalities. Several cities in these regions have begun to develop action plans in response to the national air quality management and urban transport policies to achieve clean air and sustainable mobility. There are good initiatives in this area in Africa and Asian cities. This is an opportunity therefore for these cities to share experiences and lessons, deliberate on the common and unique challenges and solutions.
This interactive forum will cover a range of issues and practices related to air quality monitoring and management, issues related to vehicle technology and fuel quality, in-use vehicle management, planning for non-motorised transport: walking and cycling, road safety and accessibility, intermediate public transport modes, public transport and multi-modal integration, travel demand management strategies, and aspects of integrated land-use and transportation development with transit oriented development in focus. This programme will facilitate interaction with a select group of leading experts and resource persons to capture the learning in the region and also demonstrate change through field trips.
Target group: Regulators from different countries of Africa region working in the field of air quality management and transportation management
Participation: Participation in the orientation workshop is by invitation only.
