Centre for Science and Environment (CSE) invites you to participate in an online round table discussion on "India's fuel economy benchmarks for an energyefficient and climate-secure world" to be held on August 24, 2021. India has already implemented the fuel economy standards for passenger cars and is on its way to setting new targets and also framing standards for heavy-duty vehicles and two-wheelers. Therefore, this is an opportunity to inform the process to maximise energy and carbon savings.
The round table will bring together key stakeholders to discuss the potential of these regulations in accelerating the low carbon pathways and rapid electrification in targeted segments and the opportunity in the emerging technology pathways. Understanding this pathway has become necessary as vehicle fuel efficiency standards directly influence mileage and carbon emissions per litre of fuel burnt. It needs urgent attention to achieve the multiple objectives of reducing oil demand and emissions of heat-trapping gases, protecting consumers from rising oil prices, strengthening energy security, driving technological innovation, and catalysing vehicle fleet electrification. The round table will focus on the way forward.
