Centre for Science and Environment (CSE), New Delhi and Cement Manufacturer’s Association (CMA) jointly organized a Three (3) days capacity building programme exclusively for cement industry professionals. Fourteen participants from various Cement industries and consultants, from different regions of India had participated actively in the programme on Environmental management in Cement Industries. The programme was designed to cognize participants on best practices in pertaining to environmental management in cement industry.
First day of training started with a brief introduction to CSE, its history and activities. This was followed by a lecture on Cement industry and a brief on its current environmental performance by Dr. S K Handoo, Advisor (Technical) of Cement Manufactures Association (CMA). Lecture on current policy issues pertaining to cement sector was conducted by Mr. R P Sharma, Advisor at CSE. This was followed by an exhaustive and thorough lecture on EIA study, EMP and EC process for cement industry by Dr. Marisha Sharma from Min Mec consultants, New Delhi.
The next day, Mr. R P Sharma started with discussion on environmental regulations followed by introduction to EHSMS. Mr. Rakesh Bhargav from Shree Cement shared his experiences and success stories on cleaner technologies and resource conservation practices; followed by discussion on NOx control and ammonia storage strategies. The day ended with detailed discussion on Air pollution and pollution control equipments.
The concluding day of training started with lecture on Online Monitoring techniques and calibration by Mr. Sanjeev Kanchan, CSE followed by lecture on Self Regulation and compliance management system by Dr. D D Basu, Advisor CSE. A lecture on water management, rain water harvesting and recharge practices was conducted by Mr. Rashmi Verma,CSE. Lastly, a lecture on Environmental monitoring and Data management was conducted by Dr. D D Basu. The day ended with feedbacks, valedictory session and certificate distribution.
