Invitation : CSE ROUND TABLE

Should junk food be junked?

November 1, 2011

Centre for Science and Environment (CSE) invites you to a Stakeholders’ Round Table in Delhi to understand and discuss the subject of junk foods and their impacts on our health.

In India, the change in urban food habits from nutrition to junk, triggered by changing lifestyles, has reportedly been a contributory factor in the increasing incidence of diabetes and obesity. What is more alarming is that these disorders are impacting the young and the very young with growing frequency.

In February 2011, in response to a PIL, the Delhi High Court had asked the Central government whether it had framed a policy to ban junk food in schools. The Court is all set for the next hearing of the case in early November.

This CSE Round Table, coming before the hearing, is expected to bring together food regulators, medical professionals, nutritionists, school administrators and teachers, researchers, and civil society representatives, and discuss threadbare the health impacts, regulatory loopholes and implementation strategies.

Day and date: Tuesday, November 1, 2011
Time: 10 AM to 1 PM
Venue: CSE Office, Core 6A, Fourth Floor,
India Habitat Centre,
Lodhi Road, New Delhi
