The Green Energy Income initiative of the Kerala government was inaugurated by chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan at Thiruvananthapuram recently.
Agency for New and Renewable Energy Research and Technology (ANERT) has installed a 2kW solar power plant that will enable 300 homes (these homes were built with the help of Life Mission). Also, a 3kw solar power plant for 100 homes (that were built by the Scheduled Cast Development Directorate) were installed free of cost. These households are entitled to an additional income equivalent to the excess energy exported from these power plants to the utility grid. They were all provided with an Induction collective, which will also bring savings in terms of the cooking gas.
The scheme was envisaged by ANERT in accordance with the government's perspective that the benefits of renewable energy should reach the poorest section of the society.
Solar rooftop portal for Rajasthan launched
A solar rooftop portal for the state of Rajasthan was launched by the state’s power minister Bhanwar Singh Bhati. It will streamline the process involved in the approvals from distribution companies (Discoms) for installation of rooftop solar in the state. Industry insiders believe this will facilitate (electricity) consumers of Rajasthan Discoms when they apply for rooftop grid connected solar PV systems under RTS Phase-II scheme of the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy---wherein a domestic consumer can get such PV systems on subsidised rates. The competitive rates are arrived by a transparent tender process as per Rajasthan Rajya Vidyut Utpadan Nigam Ltd rules through an e-procurement system by Ajmer Discom for all three Rajasthan Discoms. In the scheme, there is a provision of subsidy up to 40% for capacity up to 3kWp and 20% for >3kWp up to 10kWp, according to Prahlad Chandra Tiwari, an Accredited Energy Auditor (AEA-0130) under the Energy Conservation Act, 2001.
