Ensuring Safe Drinking Water in Rural Homes Training -3 (Jal Jeevan Mission)

Date: February 17-18, 2022 

A Two Days Training Programme on “Laboratory Training Module Ensuring Safe Drinking Water in Rural Homes “Was Conducted Between January 17-18, on virtual platform Zoom by Environment Monitoring Laboratory (EML) of Centre for Science and Environment (CSE), New Delhi. This was done under CSE’s work as Key Resource Centre under Jal Jeevan Mission, Ministry of Jal Shakti. 

The training was hosted online for officials of Middle Management Level-1 from Jal Jeevan Mission/district laboratories and sub divisional/block labs, Executive, Engineers, Assistant Engineers, Junior Engineers, and Water utility Managers, Water testing laboratory personnel form public health engineering department and government officials. This training was very focused and specialized in,

  • Status and Mitigation of Water quality in India
  • Status and Mitigation of Ground Water quality in India
  • Introduction to Laboratory Instruments, Calibration and Maintenance, Safety and Safe handling procedures, Testing and NABL accreditation of laboratories
  • Overview of water Sampling Methodology
  • Field/Mobile Testing Kits –Operation, Maintenance and Utility
  • Emergency response procedures - Understanding water quality testing protocols during pandemic and disasters.
  • Demonstration of Field/Mobile Testing Kits and Laboratory Testing Protocols for Water quality parameters 

On day 1 (February17, 2022), a total of 94 and 97 participants on day 2 (February 18, 2022), were present in the training Programme. The participants were from seven states and Union Territories – Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Karnataka, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, Nagaland and Telangana. 

Training was conducted by CSE laboratory expert and external subject expert.

Training was started with a note on climate change and need for clean waterby Sunita Narain, Director General-CSE followed by overview of JJM by P Singh-JJM official.

Consecutive sessions were taken by CSE lab Scientist’s (Arvind Singh, Vinod V.& Kalyan C.) and by external experts (“Madhumita Dobe, Director – Professor & Dean Head, Department of Health Promotion & Education All India Institute of Hygiene & Public Health”, “Shashank Shekhar, Professor, Department of Geology, University of Delhi”, “Manish S Yadav, World Health Organization, Geneva- Trainer, Lab Quality Management System & Inspections”.
