Because it is becoming more and more toxic and unbreathable. Fumes from vehicle exhausts, dust all around us, smoke from chimneys of industries, power plants, diesel generator sets, and burning crops and garbage dumps… they all add up to make our air a noxious mixture of extremely harmful substances.

Today, air pollution has become a national crisis. It ranks among the top killers in the country and is responsible for close to 13 per cent of the deaths in India. Over 75 per cent Indians breathe air that is worse than the levels recommended by the National Ambient Air Quality Standards.
