With the support of BMGF, CSE has been active in the Ganga Basin since 2016 in capacitating state and cities in citywide sanitation with special focus on FSSM for river pollution abatement. For step wise outreach in Ganga basin, the programme is divided into 2 phases. In phase I (2016 – 2018) CSE kick started capacity building support to ULBs for focusing on citywide sanitation including handholding support in preparing model CSPs, SFD study in 10 cities, set up of City Sanitation Task Force (CSTF), technical support for state and city guidelines as well as planning and implementing pilot projects for faecal sludge treatment and small scale wastewater treatment systems in selected cities in the state. In Phase II (Jan 2018 – Dec 2020), the programme will provide deep dive support to the state & technical support of FSSM in Bijnor and Chunar in making improvements along the entire sanitation value chain in planning, implementation and monitoring processes for city-wide sanitation across the states
