संख्या, सांख्यिकी और आंकड़े हमेशा हमारे भीतर उत्सुकता जगाते हैं। कई बार इन आंकड़ों से प्रभाव डालने वाली गंभीर खबरंे बन जाती हैं, जैसा कि हमने देखा भी है कि सीएसई और डाउन टू अर्थ की तरफ से हाल में स्टेट ऑफ इंडियाज एनवायरमेंट रिपोर्ट 2021 नाम की रिपोर्ट में दिये गये आंकड़ों के आधार पर कई स्टोरीज लिखी गई। कई बार हम जब ठीक से समझ नहीं पाते और गलत तरीके से विश्लेषण कर देते हैं, तो आंकड़े सच्चाई को नुकसान पहुंचा सकते हैं। पर्यावरण संबंधी आंकड़ों का अर्थ निकाल कर कैसे एक बेहतरीन स्टोरी लिखी जाती है? ये आंकड़े किन स्रोतों से जुटाये जाते हैं और ये कितने विश्वसनीय हैं? इसके अलावा ये आंकड़े और किस तरह की स्टोरीज देते हैं? पर्यावरण से संबंधित आंकड़ों खासकर वायु प्रदूषण से संबंधित आंकड़ों को समझने के लिए सेंटर फॉर साइंस एंड एनवायरमेंट और डाउन टू अर्थ के लेखकों व डेटा विश्लेषकों के वर्कशॉप में शामिल हों। वर्कशॉप में वायु प्रदूषण को लेकर हमारे विशेषज्ञों में से एक के साथ सवाल-जवाब का सत्र भी होगा। |

आपको इस कोर्स से क्यों जुड़ना चाहिए ? 1. आपको रिपोर्टिंग में पर्यावरणीय आंकड़ों/संख्याओं के इस्तेमाल को लेकर बेहतर समझ विकसित करने में मदद करेगा। हम ये भी बतायेंगे कि आंकड़े किन स्रोतों से जुटाये जा सकते हैं, आंकड़ों को कैसे देखा जाना चाहिए, ग्राफिक फॉर्मेट में कैसे प्रस्तुत किया जाना चाहिए और पर्यायवरणीय आंकड़ों का इस्तेमाल कर कैसे प्रभावी रिपोर्ट लिखी जा सकती है। 2. इस वर्कशॉप को खास तौर से आप पत्रकार और पत्रकार बिरादरी के लिए तैयार किया गया है, जो हिन्दी में रिपोर्ट लिखते हैं। इसमें शामिल टीम (सीएसई और डाउन टू अर्थ) को पर्यावरणीय आंकड़ों का इस्तेमाल कर पर्यावरण पर रिपोर्टिंग का लम्बा अनुभव है। 3. वर्कशॉप का फोकस एक महत्वपूर्ण समसामयिक मुद्दे वायु प्रदूषण पर रहेगा। आप इस मुद्दे पर हमारे विशेषज्ञों से सवाल पूछ सकते हैं। 4. सभी प्रतिभागियों को स्टेट ऑफ इंडियाज एनवायरमेंट 2021 इन फिगर्स का पीडीएफ मुफ्त दिया जाएगा। |

| The workshop was basically based on the pollution in the environment and the steps to prevent it. The workshop (seminar) was organized by Down TO Earth which is an environmental policy-based magazine. It started with an introduction lead by the chairman of the organization, followed by an employ who briefed - about the causes of the air pollution, types of polluting particles (PSU 0.5-10) and many prevention techniques which can create a difference if public practice them in their daily life. As we know India is an under-developing country with the largest population that’s even the main cause of the problem of pollution. Our excess use of non-renewal resources leads to this air pollution. There are thousands of people who suffers from respiratory diseases like Asthma, the basic key factor for all these types of diseases is the pollution in the air and the smoke from the vehicles. During a survey it was found that the pollution caused by the burning of the non-renewal resources is much more dangerous then, the send grains that we accidently breath. The particles from Petrol and Diesel are very harmful for the body as they get accumulated in the lungs and have an adverse effect on the human body. Then, we learned about how to source data from different websites that shows a correct data analysis about the real situation (current). There is a list of websites that can provide a real-time data about the Air Quality Index (AQI) of any state or city of the county or within India. Followed by Mr. Rajit who taught the attendees about, how to convert English content into Hindi in Excel sheet and also taught about the use of a website datawrapper.com that can be used to create the data charts and the tables according to a given data. At the end of the seminar, the doubt clearing session was a beautiful part where joiners asked different type of questions like “how to get data for other things like except environment?”, “why we don’t get data of the remote locations are they don’t matter?”. | This workshop taught me a great deal. It was full of really important information as well as resulted in discovery of unheard things for me. From this, we got to know about environment related issues that should be paid attention to- like the air pollution, pollution caused by the non- renewable resources in our environment. We all have to take care of all the environment issues because we are the one who does and also we are one who suffer in the future so we need to use all the resources sustainably. Also in the workshop, pollution related data was shown to us which was very informative. We also leant about some sites that how they can be really useful for us to write articles gather information. We have also learnt how to collect a data and being a media person, why is it important to us as data can make news as well as stories also. And it is important for us know about the rural areas also, because there are most of the places which are left over and no one of us know about their situation so we must pay attention on that. Apart from all these, we were taught how reporters can use excel sheets for their Hindi typing as well. As a result, the workshop was overall very informative for me as it was all about journalism and also about environment related problems. - Manjil Das |

| Numbers, Figures and data may always arouse our curiosity. Sometimes these figures lead to interesting news as we have seen in the report named India’s Environment Report that keeping in mind a story has been written with the help of data by CSE and Down To Earth. With the help of data we can present information in an engaging and understanding way which is not always possible with writing just the content. This workshop basically taught us how environment related data can help us to write a good story. This workshop gave us understanding that where do these data come from and how accurate are they especially regarding air pollution and speed . It was basically a Online Training Workshop for Journalists Reporting and Writing in Hindi Its main Focus: Using data and numbers to report on air pollution. Firstly Richard Mahapatra gave us information about the state of environment like how is it nowadays what all problems we are facing and much more. He also brought up the information regarding how we can do reporting based on the data we collect from various sources. Then Avikal Somvanshi gave us a detailed explanation on what is air pollution with various interesting examples. And he gave us knowledge about how data can be helpful while learning about air pollution. Then Kiran Pandey explained different ways by which we can collect data like different useful sources and how we can use them properly and efficiently. After that Rajat Sengupta showed us the way how we can present data in an engaging and understandable manner with proper arrangement. I enjoyed this workshop a lot as it broadened my thinking of how important data is before writing any content or story. And also, I got to know in detail about air pollution which will surely help me in my future. |
