New Delhi, July 21, 2017
CSE’s analysis of the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana (PMFBY) was released along with a media briefing workshop, attended by 18 journalists from across India and 14 from Delhi. The workshop began with a contextualisation of PMFBY within the ambit of climate change. This was followed by a background of PMFBY and a comparison with previous crop insurance schemes, the issues and challenges of PMFBY and implementation challenges. The discussion was rounded off with CSE's recommendations to make PMFBY more effective.
This was followed by a panel discussion with perspectives from a state government official, an insurance company official and a farmer activist. The panellists included:
