In collaboration with Rights and Resources Initiative (RRI), Washington DC and Society for Promotion of Wastelands Development (SPWD), New Delhi, invites you to a
Workshop on Community Forestry in India – Challenges and Opportunities in the light of lessons from Mexico and Nepal
January 23, 2015, 9:30 am – 6 pm at
Casuarina Hall, India Habitat Centre, Lodhi Road, New Delhi
Mexico and Nepal have made great progress in recognising forest rights of indigenous people. The lessons are important for India especially in the context of the Indian government pushing for the dilution of forest rights act (FRA). Also, forests are often perceived as unproductive assets, waiting only be chopped and diverted for non-forest use.
Speakers and panellists include experts from CSE, Mexico, Nepal, RRI Washington DC and grassroots activists from India working on forest rights. Sunita Narain, Director General of CSE, will chair the concluding session. Please see the detailed agenda below.
Media registration is free and on-site.
