Centre for Science and Environment jointly organized a ‘Pan-Africa Workshop on Effective Implementation of National Action Plan on Antimicrobial Resistance’ during January 22-24, 2020, Zambia, in collaboration with the National Antimicrobial Resistance Coordinating Committee (AMRCC) through the Zambia National Public Health Institute (ZNPHI), Ministry of Health, Zambia.
The ongoing workshop has brought together 60 participants, including 20 from 10 different African countries on a common platform to learn from the experiences of Zambia. Zambian stakeholders from relevant multiple sectors, representatives from intergovernmental organizations, and journalists are also represented in the meeting.
The event was inaugurated by the Honourable Minister of Health in Zambia and was attended by other dignitaries including the Indian High Commissioner to Zambia, heads of World Health Organisation (WHO) Zambia, Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) in Zambia, and the World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE) Southern regional representative. Four major reports developed under the ZNPHI-CSE collaboration and a Down To Earth cover story on AMR were released. The reports reflect Zambia’s prioritized National Action Plan on AMR, a framework for integrated AMR surveillance, baseline information for AMR surveillance and a roadmap to phase out non-therapeutic use and critically important antibiotics in food-animals.
