Dear readers,

This summer there were simultaneous heatwaves across five continents. In the UK, they were 10 times more likely due to climate change, according to a study.

In India, some 85% districts in India now face arid conditions - at least 196 districts are in the grip of a ‘severe’ degree of dryness and 65 of these are in Uttar Pradesh. The March-April heatwave impacted agriculture in 9 Indian states, says a report by ICAR report.

India’s updated climate pledge to Paris Agreement got a nod from the Union Cabinet nod. Overall, compliance to the Paris Agreement is still not enough.

Current climate reports might have underestimated the consequences of the climate crisis. We also learn this week that climate change is likely to trigger frequent and severe volcanic eruptions.

The evidence of climate change, the existential threat to humanity is clearly seen in the data that is emerging every year – this data, if visualised well, can become an effective basis for actions to arrest climate change or adapt to it.

Join the Centre for Science and Environment this month for the four-days residential “Annual Environment Data Camp: Environmental Data and Statistics, 2021-22”. Our inaugural data camp will unravel for you what the numbers really say, the stories that can be told using them, and help you visualise them using state-of-art visualisation and communication tools and methods.
